Laura Cutler, PhD

Laura is a family scientist specializing in early childhood education, early language and literacy development, and family participation in early literacy. She is passionate about supporting early childhood teachers, families, and communities to foster children’s development and working to reduce barriers to literacy equity so that all children have the opportunity to become proficient and joyful readers. Laura has garnered a unique combination of practical and research experience, having been a primary grade public school classroom teacher, a technical assistant and program coordinator with a state Quality Rating and Improvement System, and a member of a federally funded research team exploring preschool language development. Laura has written about various aspects of early childhood, families, language and literacy, and children's literature. Her work has been published in the Journal of Educational Psychology, The Reading Teacher, Early Childhood Research Quarterly, Literacy Today, and Early Education and Development. Laura has also produced online content for Ohio's Statewide Family Engagement Center and the Child and Family Blog.
