Extracurricular activities can help promote positive development in a child’s language skills, socioemotional skills, and overall school readiness. New research from Crane authors Elise Allen, Arianna Black, and Drs. Tzu-Jung Lin, Kelly Purtell, and Laura Justice examined who participates in extracurriculars, beginning as early as kindergarten. Findings show that white children from households with highly educated mothers were much more likely to participate, highlighting that gaps in accessing these beneficial activities starts early.
