What factors affect how many literacy interventions a child receives?

Small-group literacy interventions can be an effective tool in supporting preschool children at risk for reading difficulties. However, dosage matters – meaning that the number of interventions a child receives is important. The more doses of intervention, the better. This study looked at factors that affect dosage, and surprisingly, factors such as absenteeism did not affect the number of interventions a child received. Rather, instructor- and classroom-level factors most significantly related to intervention dosage. One of the most significant factors was a teacher’s own sense of self-efficacy in their ability to teach language and literacy.
