CRANE RESEARCH FORUM RECAP – Using Sensing Tools to Capture Talk in Early Childhood Classrooms and Communities

October 2023

The October 2023 Crane Research Forum featured Dr. Dwight Irvin, associate professor in the Anita Zucker Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Studies at the University of Florida. Dr. Dwight Irvin is a leading expert whose research focuses on using advanced measurements to better understand the language environments that young children at-risk for and with disabilities experience in the school, home, and community. Dr. Irvin also aims to identify ways to improve children’s developmental outcomes through finding novel ways to support language in those settings, both on an individual level and collectively. In this presentation, Dr. Irvin discusses pilot work that focuses on using sensing tools to capture the talk of children, their peers, and adults in both classroom and community settings.
