Piasta promotes better understanding of ‘science of reading’

“The term has been used in ways where it’s referencing kind of a phonics-first, phonics-only approach, which is not accurate,” Piasta said. “We know much more about additional skills that have to be supported as well.”

Piasta also was honored recently with the 2024 Ruthmarie Mitsch Professional Development Award from the Association of Staff and Faculty Women at The Ohio State University. The award helps defray expenses for career-advancing training, as well as recognizing professional achievement.
