CCEC researchers examine the availability of quality early child care in Columbus

With the considerable interest in increasing access to quality early education and care to the young children of Columbus, CCEC researchers are studying the need and availability of these programs in the city. Their study examines the types and locations of available child care in terms of the quality, capacity, and location of programs within Franklin County. Justice receives Ohio State Distinguished Scholar Award

Laura Justice, (middle) Educational Studies, received the 2017 Distinguished Scholar Award from the Office of Research. The university award recognizes faculty members whose scholarly activities and research have brought distinction to Ohio State. Justice will receive a $20,000 research grant and a $3,000 honorarium to pursue her research focused on young children struggling with language and literacy acquisition. Dads are more involved in parenting, but moms still put in more work.

CCEC Faculty Associate and Professor of Human Sciences and Psychology, Sarah Schoppe-Sullivan’s research shows that even though significant progress has been made toward gender equality in parenting, more subtle inequalities remain. Many fathers – even those in the households most likely to have progressive views on parenting – have not achieved equality with mothers in key areas. Justice offers strategies for teaching reading skills in new national guide

Laura Justice, EHE Distinguished Professor, Teaching and Learning, and CCEC Executive Director, is one of a panel of national experts who has developed evidence-based recommendations to improve the reading skills of young students. Summer Success: Promoting Kindergarten Readiness

Ohio State's Office of Outreach and Engagement Impact Grant program has awarded $60k to SFCCEC to address the challenge of improving kindergarten readiness for children entering school. The summer camp is designed to bridge research and practice by developing, implementing and evaluating an innovative, comprehensive kindergarten readiness program to 4-year-old children within the Weinland Park community. CCEC Faculty Affiliate awarded prestigious Fulbright honor

CCEC Faculty Affiliate, Sarah Gallo, assistant professor of teaching and learning, is a U.S. Fulbright Fellow. Justice named Editor-in-Chief of Early Childhood Research Quarterly

Laura Justice, EHE Distinguished Professor, Teaching and Learning, Executive Director of the Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy, and The Schoenbaum Family Center has been named Editor-In-Chief of Early Childhood Research Quarterly for a three year term beginning Jan. 1, 2016. Justice is an expert in developmental vulnerabilities in language and literacy acquisition in young children. Her work focuses on teacher and parent interventions on children’s learning, including the effective use of storybooks. She also studies classroom quality in early childhood and how quality affects children’s gains within the classroom.   Read More
