Daniela Avelar
Dr. Daniela Avelar is a postdoctoral researcher at the Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy with a background is in psychology, education, and learning sciences. She is currently part of the Small TALK research project team, which focuses on identifying early risk factors for the development of language impairment among children from low-income households. She is also part of the Kids in CASA (formerly called Solyluna) teams, which examines language trajectories of young children in Yucatan, Mexico, in both Spanish and Yucatec Mayan languages. Her primary research interests include home learning environments, shared reading interactions, and early language and literacy development, especially in bilingual families. She is passionate about supporting families to foster language and literacy skills at home, so their children develop a love for reading and are ready to succeed in school.
