Mengguo Jing
Mengguo is a developmental psychologist investigating cognitive development and early learning in the context of media technology. Her research examines cognitive processes (i.e., attention, symbolic representation, intuitive reasoning) underlying children's learning from different sources of information in the environment (e.g., screen media, story, toy play). In this work, she also designs and tests media features that facilitate children’s screen-based learning in domains including early vocabulary, math and spatial reasoning, and science learning. She is passionate about leveraging the power of media technology to promote equity and diversity in access to optimal early learning experiences. In the broader context, she also studies the role of social media in adolescent development, with a particular focus on racially marginalized groups. In her role at CECC, she works on PLUM, an NSF-funded project on media use and linguistic trajectories during early childhood.
